Pre-Departure Checklist
Entry/Departure (ED) Card
Required for all visitors
The Barbados Entry/Departure (ED) Card is a mandatory document that all visitors must complete before arriving in Barbados. It collects key information about your travel plans, personal details, and accommodation, and is reviewed by Barbados immigration authorities on arrival.
Passport Requirements
Required for all visitors
All visitors to Barbados must hold a valid passport for the full duration of their stay. While there is no strict minimum validity requirement beyond your travel dates, it is strongly recommended to have at least six months of remaining validity to avoid complications.
Visa Requirements
Depends on nationality
Barbados operates a visa-free policy for citizens of many countries. Eligible travellers may stay for up to six months without a visa. Citizens of countries not covered must apply for a visa through the Barbados High Commission or Embassy before travelling.
| Traveller Origin | Visa Required? | Typical Stay Permitted |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | No | Up to 6 months |
| United States | No | Up to 6 months |
| Canada | No | Up to 6 months |
| European Union | No | Up to 6 months |
| Commonwealth Nations | No (most) | Up to 6 months |
| Other Countries | Yes | As per visa conditions |
Proof of Accommodation
Immigration officers may ask to see where you are staying. Bring a hotel booking confirmation, rental agreement, or a letter of invitation from a Barbados resident.
Return / Onward Travel
You may be asked to show a return flight ticket or confirmed onward booking. Have this accessible on your phone or in print to facilitate a smooth entry process.
Travel Insurance
While not mandatory, travel insurance is strongly recommended. Ensure your policy covers medical expenses, cancellations, lost luggage, and emergency evacuation.
Travelling with Minors
Children must hold their own passport. Minors not travelling with both parents may need a notarised consent letter from the absent parent, plus proof of relationship such as a birth certificate.
